Live Printing: Production You Can Experience
Discover how live printing transforms merchandise into an interactive brand experience, from events and activations to on-site customisation.
Most merchandise is produced behind the scenes. With live printing, the production process becomes part of the experience.
Instead of arriving at an event and simply being handed a finished product, guests can watch their piece being created in front of them, make choices around how it's customised and leave with something connected to the experience.
At Bottega Made, we've used live printing and customisation across brand activations, store openings, film premieres and events, bringing the production process out of the workshop and into the space.

Why Make It Live?
Live printing turns merchandise from a giveaway into another point of interaction between a brand and its audience.
There's something inherently engaging about watching a product being made. It gives guests a reason to stop and interact with the activation while adding a physical process to an otherwise digital or temporary experience.
Depending on the format, guests can also have a say in what they receive by selecting a design, choosing a print position or adding personalised details. That participation creates a stronger connection to the finished piece because they've played a part in making it their own.
It can also create naturally shareable moments. The process, equipment and finished products all provide opportunities for photography, video and social content while the activation is happening.
Most importantly, guests leave with something tangible that continues to exist long after the event is over.
Screen Printing, Digital Printing & Customisation
There isn't one way to approach live printing. The production method can be adapted around the event, audience and creative concept.

Live screen printing puts the traditional printing process on display. Guests can watch ink being pulled through a screen and see a blank garment transformed in front of them. The physical nature of screen printing makes the production itself part of the theatre of the activation.

Digital printing provides greater flexibility. Designs can be prepared before the event and applied on-site, allowing guests to choose between different graphics or, for more intimate activations, experiment with artwork and print placement to create something more personal.
Live customisation can also extend beyond printing. For an Adidas activation, for example, we embroidered set designs and customer initials directly onto shoes taking the same idea of on-site production and applying it through a completely different process.
Live Printing in Action
We've delivered live printing and customisation across a range of different environments, from educational workshops, intimate store openings through to larger brand and entertainment events.
Projects have included activations for Nike × JD Sports × Yuth, Adidas and Sony, the Noobiie store opening, and film and entertainment premieres including Scream 7 and Billie Eilish, with activations delivered across Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
Each has approached live production differently. Sometimes the printing itself is the centrepiece; other times it's one part of a much larger experience. The format can be adapted around the event rather than forcing every activation into the same setup.

More Than a Printing Service
Live printing can start with a fully developed idea or simply the intention to add something interactive to an event.
Bottega Made can work as the production partner, collaborating with creative agencies, event producers and brands to bring an existing activation concept to life. Or, if the idea is still taking shape, our creative and production experience means we can help develop how printing or customisation could become part of the experience.
Because ultimately, the finished product is only one part of live printing.
The other is everything that happens while it's being made.
